John F. Maschari, age 86, of Sandusky, died Thursday morning, May 3, 2012, at his residence.
He was born June 15, 1925, in Sandusky, and was a life- long area resident. He and his wife Bertie, owned and operated the former Log Cabin Restaurant in Bay View for 24 years, and prior to this had been employed by Canalos. He served on Bay View Village Council and the Rescue Squad, was a U. S. Air Force Veteran, and was an avid golfer. John was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Sandusky Amvets, VFW, American Legion, Elks, Eagles, Moose, and served as VP of the Orioles Club.
He is survived by 2 daughters Carol "Gary" Keller and Mary Kay "Tim" Smith; one son James Maschari; daughter-in-law Linda Gantz; 6 grandchildren Amy Schuldt, Melissa Kaple, Travis Keller, Mike Gantz, Kathleen Champney, and Robert Champney; 10 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; one sister Elizabeth "Dick" Lorenz; and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his wife Alberta "Bertie" Orshoski Maschari in 1997; 2 sons Jack Maschari and Luther Gantz; 2 grandsons John- John Keller and Jimmy Maschari; one sister Celeste Canino; and a brother Thomas Maschari.
There will be no visitation. Following cremation, private family services will be held in the Chapel of Calvary Cemetery. Deacon Bill Burch will officiate.
