James A. "Jim" Sprague, 65, of Sandusky, passed away on Monday morning, May 7, 2012 in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.

He was born on February 6, 1947 in Sandusky.

Jim retired as the Superintendent of Water Services and Sewer Maintenance for the City of Sandusky.

He was a United States Marine Corps veteran, serving in the Vietnam War from 1966-1969. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and reached the rank of Corporal. He was a lifetime member of the AMVETS Sandusky Post 17 and the VFW Sandusky Post 2529, and a member of the Sandusky Athletic Club and the Erie County Conservation League.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, target shooting, talking with his buddies, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his son, Edward (Robin Leber) Sprague, Sandusky; daughter, Jennifer (Lezlie Goff) Sprague, Sandusky; longtime companion, Sharon Wittmer, Sandusky; grandchildren, Becca Sprague, Michael Protzman, Elizabeth Protzman, and Taylor Burre; great-granddaughter, Elise Sprague; and sister, Mary (Bobby) Green, Scotts Depot, West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his father, Park "Shasty" Sprague; mother, Eva Mae (Griffith) Sprague; and step-mother, Jeanne Sprague.

There will be no visitation. At Jim's request, cremation will take place in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Friends are invited to a gathering in Jim's memory from 3-6 P.M. on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the Sandusky Athletic Club, 223 W. Water St., Sandusky. Private burial services will take place at a later date in Scott Cemetery, Huron.
