Edward Stanley Yaratch, 84, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with Alzheimer's early Tuesday morning, July 18, 2023.
Ed was born May 22, 1939 in Cleveland, the son of the late Adam Yaratch and Margaret (Kish) Yaratch.
He grew up in Newton Falls, Ohio and proudly served in the United States Armed Forces and Army Reserves. In his earlier years, he served as a deacon at Woodlawn Baptist Church. He retired from Ford Motor Co. in 2000 after 35 years of service.
Ed was an avid fisherman and took joy in boating and fishing on Lake Erie. In his retirement, he took his canoe out at Resthaven daily, enjoying endless hours of solitude and fishing and was always proud of his catch.
There wasn't anything Ed couldn't fix and he took great pride in his carpentry skills, building everything from toys to household furniture and even a backyard playhouse for his kids. Their home reflects the touches he added to make it their own, both inside & out. He also enjoyed painting and dabbled for a time with painting styles similar to Bob Ross with happy little trees and happy accidents, all the same. Prior to his illness, he worked jigsaw puzzles day and night and took his former carpentry skills smaller scale with model airplanes.
He is survived by his wife, Betsy, whom he married October 29, 1977; children, Matthew (Mary Sue) Yaratch, Bethany (Dillon) Anderson, and Jonathan (Robert) Yaratch; brother, David (Shirley) Yaratch; sisters, Betty Wanchick, Margie Fowler, Eva (Jim) McCarty, Rose Dye, and Dolores (AJ) Yakubek; grandchildren, Kelsey (Mike) Meyer, Jacob (Renee) Yaratch, Hailey Yaratch, Ella Yaratch, Jordan (Codey) Ratliff, Luke Fraley, Aiden Anderson, Gavin Anderson, Mason Anderson, and Quinn Anderson; and great-grandaughter, Myla Meyer.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Ann; and siblings, Arthur Yaratch, Francis Basile, Mary Reed, Frank Yaratch, George Yaratch, and Junior Yaratch.
Friends may call Monday, July 24 from 11:00 am until time of funeral services at 12:00 pm at The Chapel, 4444 Galloway Rd., Sandusky. Entombment will take place at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association NW Ohio Chapter, 225 N Michigan Ave. 17th Floor, Chicago, IL 60601 (www.alz.org), or Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870 (https://www.steinhospice.org/donation-opportunities/gifts-in-memory-or-in-honor/).
