Bernard John Neidler

Bernard John Neidler, 87, of Sandusky, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.

He was born November 16, 1935 in Castalia to John and Pauline (Kardatzke) Neidler.

Bernie graduated from Sandusky High School in 1953. He worked for Lyman Boats and learned the craft of woodworking. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard and proudly served his country. He continued that service to his community as a police officer for the Sandusky Police Department for 25 years, retiring in 1989. Bernie was a member of the National Fraternal Order of Police. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, woodworking and finishing, and writing opinionated letters to the Sandusky Register's Reader's Forum.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Roeser) Neidler, whom he married February 18, 1956. He is also survived by his son, Jerry (Cindy) Neidler, of Bay View; daughters, Joanne Browne, of Sandusky, Jody Cooper, of Milan, and Julie Sosa, of Huron; grandsons, Ty Neidler, Adam (Leslie) Davis, Evan (Lauren) Neidler, and Dustin (Jay) Mattlin; granddaughters, Lacy (Roger) Barnett, Allison Neidler, Kristen Buder, and Jaelyn Sosa; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Frank, of Sandusky; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Elaine Andres and Karen Cummings.

At Bernie's request, cremation has taken place. Friends may call Friday, August 4 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Bardshar Rd., Sandusky. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Bernie will be inurned in the Trinity Lutheran Church columbarium.
