Eleanor A. Collumb

Eleanor A. Collumb, 97, of Sandusky died Monday evening, May 14, 2012 in the Providence Care Center, Sandusky following a brief illness.

She was born September 27, 1914 in Sandusky. She worked for American Crayon after she graduated from Sandusky High School in 1933. In 1940, she eloped with Paul Collumb and they had a 21 year honeymoon and produced a little girl in 1943. In 1948, Eleanor went to work at the Telephone Company to help make it possible for her husband to go to college. She was in a bridge club, made up of close friends and also was a member of the Mother's Club. When she became a widow, she went to work for Third National Bank (later National City and now PNC). She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Sandusky, where she held many offices; was a member of the Business Women's Club and Church Women United; and wasa member of the YMCA Aquatics for nearly 30 years. She was the most loving, generous mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother who ever lived. She always made friends easily and those friendships lasted forever.

She is survived by one daughter: Veronica (Dan) Cales of Athens, Alabama, two grandchildren: Christine (Patrick) Shaner of Salisbury, Maryland and Paul Cales of Sandusky; two great grandchildren: Hunter & Christa Shaner; and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Paul Collumb, in 1961; her father: Andrew Sonnichsen; and her mother: Mabel Ireland Cochran.

Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 PM Thursday at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, and on Friday from 9:30 AM until time of funeral service at 10:30 AM at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 214 E. Jefferson Street, Sandusky. The Rev. Bob Machovec will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
