Glen W. Sypolt, 94, residing in Sandusky, passed away peacefully at his home on August 21, 2023 surrounded by family.
Glen was born on April 20, 1929 in Terra Alta, WV to the late Homer and Catherine (Hitt) Sypolt.
He was a dedicated worker, retiring from New Departure after 26 years of service. He was a proud veteran, serving six years in the Air Force and a year and a half in the Army. His commitment to his country extended to his local community, where he was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and UAW.
Glen was a man of many interests and talents. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, biking, and taking long walks. His love for old vehicles, motorcycles and personal airplanes was evident, as he learned to fly and enjoyed working on old vehicles. He was a nuts and bolts kind of guy, who loved metalworking and woodworking. He was always tinkering and inventing things, a testament to his handy nature.
Glen was also a CDL holder and had a fondness for trucks. He was an excellent neighbor, always keeping watch for his friends and neighbors. Despite his many interests, his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his dogs, especially Gigger, his most favorite companion.
Glen is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Betty Jo (Carson) Sypolt; their devoted daughter, Chere Woolf of Milan; five grandchildren, Justin (Maria Avila) Woolf of NY, Amanda (Chris) Brant of Clyde, Megan (Eric) Tewa of Sandusky, Jessica Rose of Milan, and Joseph Rose of Milan; four great-grandchildren, Katelynn Brant, Landon Gussie, Joseph A. Rose, and Lacey Adkins; sister, Ellen Beadle of Norwalk; sister-in-law, Joyce Smith of Grafton, OH; brother-in-law, Buck Probst of WV; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Glen was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Freda Carson; sister-in-law, Linda Probst; and brothers-in-law, John Carson, Charlie Carson, Raymond Smith, and Gene Beadle.
Private family services will be conducted by Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory in Sandusky, with cremation to follow. A very special thank you to Eric Tewa for the wonderful care he gave to Glen this past year.
Those wishing to contribute to Glen's memory may do so to the Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior St, Sandusky, OH 44870.
