John J. Lewis

John J. Lewis, 72, a lifelong resident of Milan, passed away peacefully Friday, August 25, 2023, at home surrounded by his family after an extended illness.

He was born on March 5, 1951, in Norwalk, OH to the late Marshall A. and Lois J. (Ackerman) Lewis.

He graduated from Milan/Edison High School in 1969. He was employed by GTE and Verizon for 33 years. He was a member of Norwalk Alliance Church.

He was an avid Edison Athletic Booster having announced for Edison softball and volleyball teams and running concession stands. He was also a volunteer with the Milan Melon Festival for many years and served as the grand marshal for Milan's inaugural Halloween parade in 2022. He always loved helping the community and being involved with his children and grandchildren's activities.

John is survived by his wife, Renee, whom he married on February 12, 2012. He is also survived by his son Elijah J. (Naseem) Lewis, Luthersville, GA; his daughters Amy Lewis (Maggie Lewis-Stevenson), Milton, DE and Stacey Lewis, Sandusky; his stepchildren Larry (Crissy) Koelsch, Jr., Berlin Heights, Brian (Julie) Koelsch, Norwalk, Josh (Katie) Koelsch, Milan; 11 grandchildren Ethan John, Quinn, Benjamin, Dawson, Brennan, Hannah, Gavin, Corbin, Isabella, Payton and Sheridan; brothers Larry (Brenda) Lewis, Brentwood, TN and Mike (Lori) Lewis, Milan; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by a twin sister, Jeanne Fox.

Friends may call on Monday, August 28 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1 South Main Street, Milan. Private burial will take place at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Milan.
