Kenneth J. Fultz

Kenneth J. Fultz, 93, of Sandusky, died peacefully Thur., Aug. 31, 2023 at The Meadows at Osborn Park, Huron, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Bellefontaine, OH on Mar. 13, 1930, the oldest son to Kenneth and Gladys Fultz. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon his return, he married Lela Clare Corwin of Bellefontaine on Mar. 21, 1953. They celebrated 63 years before her death on May 20, 2016.

He attended Wittenberg University, Springfield, and The Ohio State University, and was employed by Portion Pak Meats in Columbus, which later became Chef's Pantry, Cook's Foodservices, and finally Oscar Mayer in Sandusky. He retired in 1993 after working in the corporate offices and later as manager of their freezer.

He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and sang in their church choir since joining the church. He served on the hospital visitation committee and was a communion assistant. In 2003 he traveled to Tanzania, Africa on a church mission to the village where Zion's sister congregation worshiped. He was a former member of the board of Goodwill Industries, a member of the Sandusky Choral Society, and a past president of the SHS Band Parents. After his retirement, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels (Route #1) for over 30 years and volunteered as a reading tutor at Osborne Elementary School for over 6 years.

His hobby was always walking. When he retired, he calculated how far it was to walk around the world. Then he set out to accomplish this, gathering friends and neighbors who walked with him. On Oct. 25, 2013, he completed his walk around the world and continued walking until only recently. But if you asked him, his pride was with his family and how it grew.

He is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Dennis) Kotz, of North Augusta, SC, Sally (Lee) Carter, of Huron, Nancy (Tom) Kinsel, of Sandusky, Linda (Jeff) Kerst, of Vermilion, and Carol (Bob) Hoerig, of Clyde; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and brothers, George (Janet) Fultz, of Dayton, and Luther (Jean) Fultz, of Eaton, OH.

In addition to his parents and wife, Lela, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy (John) Nejedly; siblings, Sarah (Richard) Lyman, Robert (Marian) Fultz, and Daniel (Betty) Fultz; and two grandchildren, Bobby Kotz and Chelsey Carter.

At his request, his body has been donated to The Ohio State University. A memorial service will occur at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Choir Fund or the Erie County Meals on Wheels program.
