Alan Corry

Alan Corry, 80, Sandusky, died on Friday, May 18, 2012 in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on October 26, 1931 in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

Alan received his Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island, where he belonged to the XI Honor Society.

He was employed by Abbott Laboratories in Ashland, OH, as Director of Research and Development of pharmaceutical plastics and resins, and was a pioneer in the industry.

Alan was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the First Army Corps of Engineers in Korea with the rank of first lieutenant.

He was a member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ, Sandusky. He was a registered professional engineer, and was past President and a member of the Board of Directors, with a title of Senior Member Emeritus, of the Society of Plastic Engineers; member of the American Chemical Society; and member of the Toastmasters Club. He loved golfing, gardening, boating, fishing, bowling and was an excellent handyman. He was a civic minded person, working for the Republican Party in many capacities.

Alan is survived by his wife of 58 years, and high school sweetheart, Judith (Potter) Corry, whom he married on June 27, 1953; daughters, Carolyn (James) Browne, Wisconsin, Marcia (Robert) Seymour, Virginia, and Pamela Newman, Sandusky, OH; grandchildren, Morgan, Christopher, Andrew, Sean, Corry, Daniel, and Erin; and a brother, Neil (Marcia) Corry, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alan and Mary (Laird) Corry; granddaughter, Erika; and a sister, Elizabeth Lawrence.

A memorial service will be held Monday, May 21, 2012, at 6 PM in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Jerald A. Fenske, of St. Stephen United Church of Christ, will officiate.
