Gerald "Jerry" Byrd, 73, of Florence Township, Berlin Heights, passed away Sunday September 3, 2023 at UH Elyria Medical Center.
He was born on May 11, 1950 in Sandusky, Ohio to Carless and Evelyn (Loudermilk) Byrd.
Jerry went to Vermilion High School, then joined the Marines, and served during The Vietnam War. He spent most of his career in Construction, and was the owner of J & S Concrete for many years until his retirement. Jerry was a member of The Florence Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, canning, working on old cars and old tractors. He enjoyed visiting with his friends, old and new, and talking anything and everything.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda (Klonk) Byrd, whom he married on November 30, 2003. He is also survived by son, Jared (Susan) Byrd; son, Tony (Ashley) Smerk; daughter, Cari Smerk; sister, Sue (Rob Shuck) Born; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandson as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Byrd in 2015; sisters Jeanne Shafer, Shirley Schofield; and brother, Carl Byrd.
Private services are being arranged. Cremation has taken place.
