Wayne G. Duez was born in Toledo Ohio on December 1, 1941 to Harold and Juanita (Conklin) Duez and passed peacefully September 6th 2023, in his home surrounded by family.
After serving in the Viet Nam war in the USAF as a B-52 jet engine mechanic, Wayne turned his abilities to the Tool and Die industry, owning his own enterprise, Curtis Machine Tool and Die. The business expanded dramatically over 17 years before he successfully sold it and moved to the Island. Wayne and Ann owned and operated the Village Bakery on Put-In-Bay Ohio for five years. Most recently, they owned and operated the Victorian Inn Bed and Breakfast in Marblehead Ohio. Wayne was a lifelong resident of the region, with periods of time away during the Viet Nam war and a few other times. He loved it here and returned from Spokane Washington because he missed Lake Erie.
Wayne was a four-time past master of the Genoa Lodge 433, and Genoa Consul. He enjoyed fishing and the bounty of Lake Erie. Early on he had been a commercial fishing boat captain and half owner of a 42-foot vessel. He was always very happy on the water pursuing fish, even through this recent summer.
Wayne will be missed by his wife, Ann Duez of 36 years and their blended families. in addition to Ann, Wayne survived by, his sister, Linda (Don) Everhardt-Kardux, children, Sharon (Rob) Riedel, Van (Rache) Duez, Mark (Tracy) Stykemain, Nicole Maker, Jamie (Todd) Erfman and Andrew Webb, 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his brother, Byron Duez.
Visitation will be 4-7pm, Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Groff Funeral Home and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Avenue Sandusky Ohio 44870, with a Masonic service at 6:30pm.
