Vincent Andrew "Jim" Vartorella, 82, of Berlin Heights, passed away Wed., Sep. 13, 2023 at Stein Hospice Care Center after his fourth fight with cancer.
Jim was born Mar. 30, 1941 in Norwalk to the late Dominic F. and Mary A. (Locuoco) Vartorella.
He was a 1959 graduate of Berlin Heights High School, and a 1964 graduate of Bowling Green State University, where he obtained his Master's Degree. Jim was a Firefighter for 51 years, and served as the Chief Firefighter for 24 years. He was employed by Perkins High School for 32 years as an Industrial Arts Teacher. Jim was a member of Lakeview Methodist Church, Delta Epsilon Fraternity, Ohio Fire Chiefs, Erie and Huron County Fire Chiefs, and was the recipient of Citizen of the Year in Berlin Heights in 2000. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dianne (Hall) Vartorella; daughter, Melissa (Christopher) Bair, of Columbus, OH; sons, Allen (Amber), of Powell, OH, and Michael (Laura) Vartorella of Oregon, OH; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Joanne M. Jackson and Mary (William) Waltz; brother-in-law, Tom Ward; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Georgie A. Ward; and brother-in-law, Robert Jackson.
Friends may call Sat., Sep. 23 from 10 A.M. until time of the funeral services at 1 P.M. at the Berlin Heights Fire Department, 12101 S.R. 61, Berlin Heights, 44814. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
