Karen Sue Austin

Karen Sue Austin, 74, a life-long resident of Norwalk, died Saturday, October 28, 2023 at home, surrounded by her family.

Born on December 23, 1948 in Norwalk, she was the daughter of the late Owen "Bud" and Berldine (nee Montgomery) Libbee. Karen was a 1967 graduate of Norwalk High School.

Karen and her husband owned and operated Austin Power Equipment in Norwalk. She was an active member of Norwalk VFW Auxiliary Post 2743, volunteering and serving as Auxiliary President as well as District President. Karen was also active with the Blue Star Mom's and served as the treasurer. She also volunteered with the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. Through her work at the OVH, she met and made a special connection with veteran, Katie Lane, who became like a sister. Karen was an active member of the Berlin Heights Baptist Church. She loved spending time outdoors, and cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Tara (Jim) Hancock, of Milan; Son, Tracy (Krista) Fowler, of Delaware, OH; grandchildren, Tyler Hollis, Austin Hancock, Alexander Hancock, Owen Ferngren, Sydney Fowler, and Marissa Fowler; a great-grandson, Liam Hancock; and a brother, Richard (Judy) Libbee. Karen was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, George H. Austin, and a brother Larry Libbee.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday, November 4, from 1 p.m. until the time of services beginning at 4 p.m. at Walker Eastman Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 West Main St, Norwalk, Pastor Shaun Cotterill will officiate.
