Phyllis Miller

Phyllis Miller, 99 1/2 years old, of Sandusky, died November 1, 2023 at ProMedica Hospital in Toledo. Specialized treatment was needed as a result of a recent stroke the morning of October 25, 2023.

She was born April 18, 1924 to Myra Catherine Pye and Paul Augustus McDougall.

Phyllis attended the Sandusky public school system, grades 1-11, and was a member of the Sandusky A Cappella Choir, performing as second soprano. Her 12th year was at Norwalk High School, where she graduated in 1942 and was recognized by the National Honor Society. She studied oil painting from 1979-1983 at BGSU Firelands College, "Life Long Learning Program".

Her early adult work involved singing with Phil Link's Orchestra in Norwalk, followed by moving to Port Clinton to work at the Erie Proving Grounds as a secretary. After that she moved back to Sandusky and was an assistant secretary in the stenographic department for Hinde and Dauch Paper Company. Later in life she worked for Steinemann Hafner Insurance Company, and retired at 60 years old.

Phyllis belonged to the USO Organization during World War II as a way of contributing. She traveled to the Port Clinton Armory and to Camp Perry for dances with the soldiers. She had memberships in the "Daughters of Isabella" Christian Women's Club since 1956 and in the St. Mary's Funeral Choir, "The Sob Sisters", for many years.

Phyllis also was recognized for her volunteer work at the Erie County, Sandusky Nursing Home. She also volunteered at Providence of Commons at the Independent Living #315, 5500 Providence Dr., Sandusky and the Assisted Living #310, 5000 Providence Dr., Sandusky. This is where she lived and loved for the last two decades!

Phyllis is survived by her son, Phillip (Janice) Miller, Sandusky; daughter, Tricia (Rich) Kaman, Chagrin Falls: and son Randy (Dianna) Miller, Sandusky: along with her daughter-in-law, Laura (Dan) Smith, living grandchildren include, Jason (Jennifer) Miller, Jeremy (Kelly) Miller, Ben (Shelly) Kaman, Kate (Emily) Kaman, Tony (Christina) Miller, Joel (Kayla) Miller, Zachary (Christian) Miller, Nicholas (Katie) Miller, Mackenzie (Tyler) Trueman, Andrea Hayse, and Alicia (Ryan) Snyder; GG leaves behind her 20 great-grandchildren.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Beatrice Stanz; and three brothers, Paul, Warren, and Douglas McDougall. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 63 years, Aloyisius Francis Miller; her youngest son, Kenneth James Miller; and her grandson, Jeffrey Kenneth Miller.

Visitation for friends and family will be 3-7 P.M. Sunday, November 5 at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M. Monday, November 6 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
