Joel D. Poyer, 72, of Berlin Heights, passed away Thursday November 2, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on April 14, 1951 in Sandusky, Ohio to Edgar and Alice (Reighley) Poyer.
Joel graduated from Edison High School. He worked at CertainTeed in Avery, retiring after 33 years, serving as Union president and, eventually, Plant Superintendent. Joel was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing golf, reading and watching Jeopardy and Cleveland and Ohio State sports with his family. Most of all, Joel loved his family, and his time spent with them was the happiest of his life. Words will never adequately describe how much we will miss him.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathy. Joel is also survived by his daughter, Becky (Nick) Werner; sons, Joshua D. Poyer, Kevin J. (Tasneem) Poyer and Christopher J. Poyer; grandchildren, Madelyn Poyer and Elias Poyer; sisters, Gail (Bill) Rinas and Mary (Steve) Chan; brother, Michael (Janet) Poyer and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Joel was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Ann Poyer and Margaret "Peg" Schultz, and his father and mother-in-law Clifford and Grace Scheid.
Friends may call on Sunday, November 5, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Toft Funeral Home, Hinman Chapel, 38 South Street, Berlin Heights. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 145 S. Center Street, Milan, Ohio with Rev. Anthony Recker presiding. Burial will follow.
