Gloria Ruth (Bluhm) Helfrich, 99, residing in Huron, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Gloria was born on March 25, 1924 in Sandusky, OH to the late August and Ruth (Hummel) Bluhm.
Gloria graduated from Sandusky High School in 1941. She enjoyed being a military wife of her husband, Robert, and raising her children. They owned Lakefield Airport in Celina, OH. After operating the airport, Robert was recalled to Germany where they enjoyed living. After Robert's retirement, in 1977 she and her husband started the Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Store in the Sandusky Mall. Gloria was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sandusky. In her spare time, she enjoyed transcribing books into braille and volunteering for several organizations.
Gloria is survived by her daughters, Shirley (David) Buchholz of Sandusky and Elizabeth (Richard) Rothgeb of Bellevue; daughter-in-law Mary Helfrich, sister-in-law Kathleen Helfrich, grandchildren, David, Cindy, Timothy, Mary Michelle, Robert Christian and Christopher; great-grandchildren, Valerie, Jacob, Devin, Caleb, Shelby and Seth; sister, Mary Ann (Arnold) Kayl; two nieces; and numerous other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Helfrich in 2015 and her son, Robert Helfrich Jr. in 2020.
Friends may call on Thursday, November 16th from 12 Noon until 1:00 P.M. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky with Phillip Gardner presiding. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, OH. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Legacy Center 1522 East Perkins Avenue immediately following the burial.
