Richard Leroy "Dick" Strayer, 83, residing in Norwalk, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Admiral's Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.
Richard was born on January 5, 1940 in Maumee, OH to the late John and Clara (Kosch) Strayer.
Richard graduated from Anthony Wayne High School and was also a graduate of the University of Toledo. He was an engineer at Ford Motor Company for 32 years. Richard was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sandusky, where he enjoyed singing in the choir, as well as a member at St. John's UCC, Milan and attended St. Peter Lutheran in Norwalk. In his spare time he enjoyed his dartball league, woodworking, making china cabinets, golfing, bowling and spending time with his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Shelby) Strayer, whom he married on June 29, 1963; daughter, Carol Santee (Michael Massa) of Powell, OH; sons, David (Becky) Strayer of Clyde,OH and William (Jean) Strayer of Powell, OH; grandchildren, Amanda, Steven, Josh, Nickolas and Liliana, great grandchildren, Xavier, Aria, Quinn and Saiyan.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his siblings, brothers Earnest, Vern (Erma), George, Donald (Wilma); sisters Helen, Mary (George), Dorothy (Donald) and Betty.
Friends may call on Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. St. John's United Church of Christ, 2712 W. Mason Road, Milan, OH 44846 with Pastor Wendy Schindler-Chasney officiating.
