Dorothy M. Smith, age 93, of Castalia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 10, 2023.
She was born April 4, 1930, to Theodore and Nellie (Wood) Beighley in New Castle, PA.
She moved to Castalia in 1957, where she remained until residing in the Willows of Bellevue in 2022. She was a member of the Congregational U.C.C., Castalia. Dorothy enjoyed her many activities, including singing in the choir for many years. She held numerous responsibilities within the church.
Her greatest joy was her family and attending every event that her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were involved in. She was an avid bowler, early on, and loved working in her yard. Dorothy enjoyed traveling with her sister, Delores, once visiting her mother's hometown and many relatives in England. Dorothy worked at Erie, Chrysler, Plymouth, and Dodge, Ohio Edison, and Gildemeister Motors as a bookkeeper, continuing to work until the age of 82.
Dorothy is survived by her son Thomas (Sandy) Kennedy, Castalia; daughter in-law Jewel Kennedy, NC; grandchildren Darlene (Tim) Crouse, FL, Andrew (Jamie) Kennedy, Castalia, and Courtney (Bob) Fitzgerald, Castalia; great grandchildren Austin Hickey, Tallen, Carson, Kiersen, and Max Kennedy, Kennedy, Cassidy, and Clare Fitzgerald; step children Shelley (Max) Jarrett and Marshall (Patty) Smith and their families; step great grandchildren Macy (Tyler) Tucker and Miah Laser; and sister in-law Jeanette Smith
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Smith; parents Theodore and Nellie (Wood) Beighley; son Timothy Kennedy; grandson James Kennedy; sister and brother in-law Delores and Mike Elchison; and a brother in infancy.
Friends may call from 11 AM until time of services starting at 12 Noon, December 14, 2023, at the Congregation U.C.C., 205 Main St., Castalia. Pastor John Paputza will officiate. Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, Castalia, is in charge of the arrangements.
