Jeaneen M. (German) Simek, 90, of Birmingham, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Mill Manor in Vermilion.
She was born on July 22, 1933 in Amherst, Ohio to Hayes and Doris (Yates) German.
Jeaneen graduated from Birmingham High School in 1951, then started working at C.A. Olson in Elyria. She married George Simek on January 31, 1954 just as he entered the Army. They returned to Birmingham, where they raised two sons together and where she lived independently until October of this year. She was employed in many roles at the Firelands Local School District, but for the last 26 years she was the Secretary to the Superintendent until her retirement in 2011 after 42 years of loyal service. Jeaneen was a member of Birmingham Methodist Church for over 60 years, where she was very active and served many roles at the church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, and playing bunko with friends.
She is survived by her sons; Jeffery Simek of Wakeman, OH, David (Pamela) Simek of Burnsville, NC, granddaughters; Nikita (Devon) McCann, Cheynoa Summers; grandsons, Dyami Simek, Matthew (Tiffany) Simek, Brett (Abby) Simek; 11 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rita German, 3 nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George Simek and brother Warren (Bud) German.
Friends may call on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Toft Funeral Home, Wakeman Chapel, 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman. On Friday, January 5, there will be an additional hour of visitation at Birmingham Methodist Church starting at 10 am until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 am, with Rev. Dick Kretchmar presiding. Burial will immediately follow in Birmingham Cemetery.
