Joe Nathan "Pops" Pray, 73, of Sandusky, departed this life on Friday morning, June 8, 2012 when the Lord called him home.
He was born on September 28, 1938 in Allenhurst, Georgia to the late Quincy Pray and Elizabeth Howell Pray. He received his education in the public schools of Liberty County, Georgia.
At an early age, Joe joined the Baconton Missionary Baptist Church of Walthourville, Georgia. As an adult, he moved to Sandusky where he worked faithfully for many years as a general laborer. On February 24, 1979, Joe was joined in holy matrimony to the late Velma M. Cleveland Pray.
He was a member of Ebenezer Church of God in Christ in Fremont, Ohio. He enjoyed fishing, family, and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. A true man of God and family, Joe was also known for his large smile.
Joe leaves to cherish his memory his son, Lee Curtis (Gretta) Pray, Waynesboro, Mississippi; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Pasco Pray, Indian Trail, North Carolina; sisters, Janie Moore, Hampton, Virginia, Shirley Pray (James) Frasier, Walthourville, Georgia, and Gwendolyn Smith, Rockledge, Florida; a devoted friend, Karen Hall, Sandusky; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Curtis Pray.
Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2012 at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
