Matthew William Pooch, 29, of Sandusky and formerly of Castalia, was called home by God on Saturday, July 7, 2012 after a seven year battle with brain cancer, surrounded by his wife and family.
Matt was a 2001 graduate of Margaretta High School. He attended Toledo University and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in Accounting. He was studying for his Treasurers License.
He worked for Sandusky City Schools and previously worked for The State Auditor's office, Hula Construction, and Castalia Trout Club. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sandusky.
Matt was a very loving and devoted husband and loving son, brother, uncle and friend to everyone he met. Matt coached Pee Wee Football, enjoyed Sunday Softball League, restoring his old car and playing Corn Hole with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, the former Lauren Markley, to whom he married on August 21, 2010; special friend Nahla; parents William and Gloria (Mason) Pooch, Castalia, sister Sarah (Jared Opfer) Kovalaske, Castalia, nieces Madison and Makenna Kovalaske, paternal grandmother Marge Pooch, Sandusky, mother and father in-law Mike and Maree Markley, Castalia, brother in-law Kyle Markley, WY, aunts and uncles Gary (Kay) Pooch, Sandusky, Richard (Karen) Pooch, Castalia, Mark (Karen) Mason, Cincinnati, Donna (Dave Johnston) Mason, Norwalk, and Cindy (Rob) Re, Hattiesburg, MS; cousins Gary (Cari) Pooch, Alyssa and Cassidy Crone, Jenny Pooch, Todd Pooch, Mandi (Ben) Yetter, Karli, Collin, and Caleb Lane, Tony (Kylie) Pooch, Troy and Ellie Pooch, Adam Pooch, Jason (Amy) Taylor, Braden, William, and Emily Taylor, Shaun Taylor, Dana, Dylan, Katie, and Payton Taylor, Michelle Taylor, Will (Jess) Mason, Angela Mason, Rebekah Mason, Brandi (Chris) Re, Keelie and Courtney Re.
Matt was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Orville Pooch, and maternal grandparents Kenneth and Elsie Mason.
Friends may call from 2-8 PM Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at 10 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church, 1605 W. Jefferson St., Sandusky. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
