Bridget A. Grant

Bridget A. Grant, 48, of Sandusky, passed away Wednesday morning, July 11, 2012 in Firelands Regional Medical Center.

She was born on January 13, 1964 in Sandusky to Ozella (McCarty) Grant and the late James Grant, Jr.

She was a 1982 graduate of Sandusky High School. She earned an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education on May 4, 2011 and was working toward an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, planning to get her Bachelor's Degree in the field of study. She wanted so much to reach out to the troubled youth in the city... this was her goal.

Bridget was a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. She worked many different places, but found her true calling as a Nurses' Aid at the Ohio Veterans Home. She retired from OVH in 2002 due to a disability.

She enjoyed spending time with her nieces, nephews, and her only son, Derek, whom she cherished. She loved to make people laugh, and was good at bringing a smile to anyone's face. She had a heart of gold and would give her last to people, even if she didn't really know them. With Bridget it never really mattered as long as she was making others happy - she never asked for anything in return.

Bridget is survived by her only son, Derek O. Grant, Sandusky; significant other of 13 years, Robert L. Williams, Sandusky; mother, Ozella (McCarty) Grant; sisters, Janet (Percy) Ferrell and Marylon (Dony) Davis, both of Sandusky, and Mary Grant, Columbus, OH; brother, Melvin Walker, London, England; godmother, Esther Colvin; godsister, Theresa Colvin; godbrother, Julius Colvin; goddaughter, Jasmine Fisher; godson, DaQuan Shaw; her extended family: three babies, Max, Tink, and Bella; "Big Piggy"; friends, Frankie "Nitty" Payton and Donavon Johnson, both of Sandusky, Donny "Freeze" Walk, Columbus, OH, and Sandra Sandergeld, Utah; children of her significant other, Tira, Nakia, Robin, Tish, and Cliff; "other sisters", Francine Harris, Pauline Powell, and Marion Rice, all of Sandusky; "other brother", Robert L. McKinley, Sandusky; and her "other sons", Chester Taylor and Derius "Juicy" Johnson, both of Sandusky.

She was preceded in death by her father; maternal and paternal grandparents; daughter, Lisa M. Grant, on September 25, 1985; brother, Michael Redding; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and best friend, Lisa M. "Pie" Pace.

Friends may call on Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 7-9 P.M. in New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Eddy Henry Way, Sandusky, and on Friday from 10 A.M. until time of funeral services at 11 A.M. in the church. Rev. Curtis L. Johnson, Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to her son, Derek O. Grant.
