Kurt T. Rohrbacher, age 28, of Castalia and Put-in-Bay, died unexpectedly Friday, July 20, 2012, in an ATV accident on Put-in-Bay.
He was born March 11, 1984, in Sandusky, and was a 2002 graduate of Margaretta High School. He graduated from Baldwin Wallace in 2007 with a degree in criminal justice. He was a captain with the Miller Boat Line, and was head of security at Mr. Ed's Bar and Grill, both on Put-in-Bay. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Castalia, and the Put-in-Bay Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He loved to fish, ice fish, hunt, help others, being outdoors, and living at the Bay.
Kurt is survived by his parents Jeffrey and Barbara (Matta) Rohrbacher; two brothers Kiel and Kevin; his maternal grandmother Louise Matta; and paternal grandfather Willard Rohrbacher.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather John Matta; his maternal grandmother Jean Rohrbacher; and his paternal step-grandmother Gennie Rohrbacher.
Friends may call from 2-9 pm Tuesday, July 24, 2012, in the Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, and from 9:00-11:00 am Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in the Conference Center at Put-in-Bay Resorts, 439 Lorain Ave., Put-in-Bay. Anyone wanting to ride with Kurt on his last boat ride, are welcome to join the family at the Lime Kiln Miller Boat Line Dock for the 12:30 pm boat back to Catawba Island. A memorial donation, in lieu of the boat fee, would be appreciated to: Kurt's Memorial Fund, in care of Put-in-Bay Employee Cares. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in Grace Lutheran Church, 203 S. Washington St., Castalia. The Rev. Kathleen Suggitt will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
