Margaret June "Peggy" Kaufman, 76, Rock Hill, SC, passed away the morning of Tuesday, August 7, 2012, in the Erie County Care Facility after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born on September 21, 1935 in Sandusky, Ohio.
Formerly from Middle Bass Island and Sandusky, Peg retired from a 32-year career with the Ohio State Highway Patrol as a Driver's License Examiner, one of the first female examiners in the state.
She is survived by her three children: daughter, Colleen L. Kaphengst, Rock Hill, SC; sons, Jamie (Jaqui) Kaufman, Atlanta, GA, and, Mark Kaufman, Portage, IN; sisters, Patricia (John) Van Dootingh and Sally Brennan, both of Sandusky; brother Tom (Sandy) Runkle, Monroeville, OH; granddaughters, Nicole (Michael) Blevens Shreve, OH, and Emily Kaufman, Atlanta, GA; four great-grandchildren, Maddie Rose Blevens, Caden Michael Blevens, and Nevaeh Blevens, all of Shreve, OH, and Olivia Kaufman, Toledo, OH; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oral G. Kaufman; parents, Stanley and Viola (Robinson) Runkle; and brother, William Runkle, former mayor of Bryan, OH.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 18, 2012 at 11:30 AM in
the Ohio Veterans Home Giffin Chapel, 3416 Columbus Ave. Sandusky, OH, 44870. Rev. Edgar Shelly will officiate. A celebration of her life will immediately follow the service in the Ohio Veterans Home pavilion. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Castalia Cemetery, 407 Bardwell Road, Castalia, Ohio.
