Myrtle I. (Day) Whidden, 76, of Greenwich, and formerly of the Sandusky area, passed away on Saturday afternoon, September 8, 2012 at Hospice of North Central Ohio, Ashland.
Affectionately known by friends as "Myrt" or "Grandma", Myrtle was born on March 20, 1936 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late William and Grace (Green) Day.
She worked at American Crayon and retired from New Departure after working there for over 20 years.
She was a caring person who could make everyone like her. People would often find themselves hugging her before they left. Myrtle loved her garden, fishing in Battery Park in Sandusky, and the Cleveland Indians. But most of all, she loved being around her family, especially her grandchildren.
Myrtle is survived by her son, Kenneth (Lisa) Whidden, of Norwalk; daughter, Norma (Fred) Dotson, of Ashland; grandchildren, Veronica (Andy) Middaugh, Michel (Aaron) Medrano, Kenneth Whidden, Jr., and Laura Whidden; four great-grandchildren; sister, Donna (George) Mekoleski, of Sullivan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and very close friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Whidden, in December of 1980; companion, Joe Nolan; and her siblings, Loren, Ronald, Norma, Phylis, Velma, Ralph, and Mary.
At Myrtle's request, cremation will take place at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Friends may call on Saturday, September 15, 2012 from 10 A.M. until time of memorial services at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. Private burial services will take place at Sand Hill Cemetery, Margaretta Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Margaretta Twp. Fire Dept., c/o 114 Main St., Castalia, OH 44825 or to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Dr., Ashland, OH 44805. Condolences may be shared at www.toftfh.com.
