Wayne V. Zimmerman

Wayne V. Zimmerman, 91, residing at the Ohio Veterans Home, and formerly of Collins, died on Monday, September 24, 2012, at his residence.
He was born on March 26, 1921 in Huron, OH, and was a graduate of Huron High School.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during WWII as a electricians mate 3rd class.

Wayne was employed by Baltes Construction and Bob Price Construction as a heavy equipment operator, worked for Save Ohio as a highway inspector, and was a lifelong farmer.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wakeman, Western Reserve Booster Club, American Legion, and was a 4H advisor in Huron County for 10 years, with the saddle club. Wayne loved horses and would be remembered by many for driving the Amish community around for appointments, livestock sales, and many other needs for transportation that they might have.

He is survived by his children, Diane (Ron) McBrayer, Columbia, S.C., Carol Manfull, and Richard Zimmerman, both of Collins, OH, and C. David Zimmerman, Georgetown, S.C.; eleven grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two nephews, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Mae (Huffman) Zimmerman on November 28, 2000; parents, Charles and Ursula (Smith) Zimmerman; sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Charles "Bus" Lyons; and brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Rosemary Zimmerman.

A graveside service for Wayne and his wife Hilda will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012, at 11:30 A.M. in Scott Cemetery, Huron Avery Rd., Huron, OH. Deacon Jack Busam will officiate. The American Legion Post 83 Honor Guard, Sandusky, will provide the military tribute. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
