Mary Lee (Powe) Johnson, 81, Sandusky, died Tuesday, September 25, 2012 in Providence Care Center.
She was born on January 20, 1931 in Silas, Alabama to Lewis and Cora (Washington) Powe, who preceded her in death when she was 9 years of age.
She was loved and protected by several aunts and uncles, including Mary and Walter Cunningham. Before her death, her mother requested that she be raised by her aunt and uncle, Paphene and Eddie Craig.
She married the late William Frank Johnson in September 1945 and relocated to Sandusky in 1950. She was employed at Deco Food Products for many years and, later, New Departure.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading the bible, watching baseball games, and going on family outings.
Mary Lee was a former member of New Jerusalem M.B.C, under the leadership of Rev. Fred Tucker. She united with Agape Ministries under Bishop Clifton T. Jones.
She is survived by six daughters, Cora L. Williams, Jeanette (Jimmie) Harvey, and Helen Prophet, all of Sandusky, Willa Mae Johnson, Atlanta, Georgia, Christine (Michael) Hopewell, Clermont, Florida, and Jayne (Robert) Tinsley, Louisville, Kentucky; four sons, William "Wayne" Johnson, Sandusky, Ira (Marlene) Johnson, Stone Mountain, Georgia, Jeff Moore, Louisville, Kentucky, and Andrew Avery; 65 grandchildren; 122 great grandchildren; 31 great-great grandchildren; two special sons, Jesse (Kathleen) Brown and Delonce "Nip" Fiske, both of Sandusky; eight foster children; special sisters- in- law, Louise Johnson and Claudia Johnson, both of Sandusky; nieces and nephews; special cousins that were like sisters, Mamie Pettis, Erma Turner, Annie Williams, all of Sandusky; lifetime friends, Mary Morris, Annie Card, Aleatha Leavel, Ruby L. May, Inez Grant, and Louise Rogers.
She preceded in death by her parents; husband ,William "Frank" Johnson, on July, 1969; son, Frank "Victor" Johnson, on September 23, 2001; daughter, Priscilla Johnson, in 2004; and brothers-in-law; and companion, Jeff Moore, Sr.
Friends may call on Sunday, September 30, 2012, from 6-8 P.M. in Agape Love Ministries, 4013 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Homegoing services will be held Monday at 12 P.M. Noon in the church, with Bishop Clifton T. Jones, Sr., officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
