Roberta E. HendersonRoberta E. “Bert” Henderson, 72, of Sandusky passed away Tuesday evening, November 9, 2010 in the Erie County Care Facility following a one year illness. She was born May 1, 1938 in Port Clinton and was a 1956 graduate of Port Clinton High School. In 1969, Roberta became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was employed at the former Good Samaritan Hospital, Firelands Regional Medical Center and retired in 1999 from the Ohio Veterans Home. She was a member of La Societe de Femme, Order of Eastern Stars, and the American Legion Post 83 Ladies Auxiliary. With her work with the Ladies Auxiliary, Roberta participated in “Booties for the Boys” program, having to knit pairs of homemade booties for the men oversees, which was named “Operation Toasty Toes.” From her work with this program, she received the President’s Volunteer Service Award from President George W. Bush. She is survived by two sons: Steve Henderson of Columbus, Michael (Carolyn) Henderson of Sandusky, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one sister: Renee McKinney Cook of Columbus, a special brother-in-law: Levi Jones of Sandusky, special nephew: Delaney Alexander of Sandusky and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Henderson in 1999, whom she married on January 17, 1959, one daughter: Joyce Henderson, her mother & step father: Hilton & Clara McKinney, and her grandparents: Ervin & Izota Smith, and one sister: Delores Jones. Friends may call Monday from 11:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 1:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Pastor Johnnie Cross will officiate. Entombment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 3100 W. Central Avenue, 2nd Floor, Toledo, OH 43606.
