Robert S. Russell, Sr., 84, Sandusky, made his transition on Thursday, October 18, 2012, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.
He was born on November 27, 1927 in Laurel, MS.
Robert was employed by Aluminum Magnesum for over 35 years, and served as the President of the Local 393 for several terms. He retired from General Motors in Mansfield, OH in 1993. Robert also was the owner of the Revelation Store and put on many fashion shows throughout Ohio. He worked as a crossing guard for Sandusky City Schools.
He was a member of Porters Memorial C.M.E. Church for over 50 years, where he served as trustee, and was master of ceremonies for many programs, directed plays, and was very active until his recent illness. Robert was active in the Democratic Party, the NAACP, founder of the Sandusky Citizens Coalition, board member and founder of Sandusky's Sunday Best, and coached the Amvets Little League for sixteen years.
Robert is survived by his wife, Geneva (Thompson) Russell; children, Clifton (Melanie) Russell, Jo Cynthia Keels, Anthony Smith, Minister Howard (Sherron) Carr, and Elder Gwendolyn (Elder Glenn) Moorer, all of Sandusky, Barbara (Kenneth) Parker, Columbus, OH, and Evangelist Gail Tate, Euclid, OH; brother, Arhtur (Betty) Russell, Philadelphia, PA; thirty three grandchildren; fifty great-grandchildren; eighteen great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Lugenia (Barnett) Russell; children, Gloria (Russell) Wood, and minister Robert S. Russell, Jr.; brothers, Amos Russell and Robert Sherman; granddaughter, Felecia Anne McGill, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends may call on Thursday, October 25, 2012, from 7-9 P.M. in Porters Memorial C.M.E. Church, 1722 Third St., Sandusky. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1PM at the church. Rev. Randolph White will officiate, and Elder Bruce Gibson will present the eulogy. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Memorial contributions may be made to Porters Memorial C.M.E.
