Nancy J. (Sherwood) Swicker

Nancy J. (Sherwood) Swicker, age 78, of Norwalk, passed away Friday, October 26, 2012 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 27, 1934 in Traverse City, Michigan to the late Custer B. Sherwood and Mildred Elizabeth (James) Sherwood. She was a 1952 graduate of Milan High School and was married in 1957 at the Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a lifelong member. She worked as a cook for the Berlin Milan School District, and then retired after 17 years. She enjoyed being a grandma and attended various sporting events and activities with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and was loved by all friends and family as "Aunt Nancy". She enjoyed social activities, traveling with her sisters and brother and especially attending the annual family reunions. She was an avid reader and enjoyed music, baking, cooking, the outdoors and regularly scheduled breakfast and lunch outings with her classmates and co-workers. She was active with the Milan Edison Alumni and enjoyed watching birds, squirrels and the deer in her backyard.

She is survived by her loving children; Jacquie (Dean) Stuckey of Bellevue, Jen (Jill Chaffins) Swicker of Norwalk, Jessie (Jim) Hill of Vincent, OH, Janice (Doug) Crooks of Milan, and Millie (Jim) Carper of Willard; grandchildren, Josh, Justin, Allison, Natalie, Richard, Jennifer, Sam, Luke, Alex and Jake; siblings, Donna Capizzi of Sandusky, Mary (Tom) Mockler of Norwalk, Helen Easler of Norwalk, Jim (Elsie) Sherwood of Brighton, MI and Sandy (George) Peacock; sister-in-law, Bev Finnen of Norwalk; and a brother-in-law, Clifford Springer of Norwalk; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert S. Swicker in 2003; daughter in infancy, Tracey Lynn Swicker in 1963; brother and sisters, Jack Sherwood, Jean French and Norma Boersma.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk, and Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. at the Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, 10 E. Church Street, Milan with the Rev. Dr. Eunchun Timothy Kim officiating. Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park in Huron.

Contributions may be sent to Stein Hospice, Christie Lane community recreation program, St. Paul High School athletics, Edison drama and athletic programs.
