Robert L. Herold, 90, of Sandusky died unexpectedly early Friday morning, September 17, 2010 in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky. He was born December 5, 1919 in Erie, PA., and moved to Sandusky at the age of two. Robert was a 1940 graduate of Sandusky High School, where he played in the band. He was very proud to be the first student that had attended the Good Health School (where he attended with polio) to graduate for SHS. He was employed for 40 years by the Rogers Group Quarries, where he was known as “Top Banana, “ retiring in 1994. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Flora Gilbert, twelve children: Daniel Herold of California, Patricia (Kenny) Jensen of Port Clinton, Diane (Don) Madden of California, Robert (Debbi) Herold of Sandusky, Dennis (Marion) Herold of Germany, Jerry “Farmer” (Michelle) Herold of Sandusky, Thomas (Sheryl) Herold of Texas, Marc (Jane) Herold, Della (Todd) Stewart, Jeannie Herold, Sherri (David) Sidoti, all of Sandusky, 25 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, one brother: Edward (Virginia) Herhold of Sandusky, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by one son: Edward D. Herold, one grandson: Tommy Byington, his parents: Herman & Jeannette (Duffield) Herhold, one brother: William Herhold and one sister: Della Louise Herhold. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. On Tuesday, the body will be taken to Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky for visitation from 9:30 AM until time of funeral service at 109:30 AM. The Rev. John B. Mawhirter will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United State Fund for UNICEF, 125 Maiden Lane, New York, N.Y. 10038 or Zion Lutheran Church.
