Marian S. Shadle, 98, of Sandusky and Norwalk, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, September 8, 2010 in the Parkuve Health Care Center, Sandusky. She was born December 10, 1911 in Sandusky to Lena & Earl Schatz. Marian was a graduate of Sandusky High School and the Sandusky Business College. Prior to her marriage to Austin E. Shadle of Norwalk, Marian worked in Washington D.C. as the secretary to an Ohio Congressman. Marian was proud to have met former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, whom she greatly admired, at a garden party at the White House. Marian and Austin owned and operated the Norwalk Bottling Works for several years. She was a trained classical pianist who gave lessons for several years in Norwalk. She was most proud of a concert given when a teenager, along with Alan Atkinson, at Carnegie Hall in the Sandusky Library. An avid bridge player, Marian belonged to several clubs for most of her life. Marian is survived by one brother: James Schatz of Sandusky, seven nieces, one nephew, and numerous great and great great nieces and nephews. She was greatly loved by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin E. Shadle in 1998, her parents: Earl & Lena (Ehrhardt) Schatz, and three sisters: Helen Miller, Lois Weis and Merle Williams. Friends may call Monday from 9:30 AM until time of funeral service at 11:00 AM in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. The Rev. Lenore Kure will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 in memory of Marian.
