Samuel "Sam" Giallombardo

Samuel "Sam" Giallombardo, 90, of Norwalk, Ohio, died early Saturday morning, November 24, 2012 in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born May 20, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Phillip and Carolina (Naso) Giallombardo and came to the Norwalk, Ohio area in 1950 from Cleveland.

He was a member, and Eucharistic Minister, of St. Paul Catholic Church, Norwalk, Ohio. Sam was also a member, former President, board member, 2 time Lion of the year, and recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow, of the Norwalk Lions Club. He was also a member Eagles Aerie #711, Norwalk, Ohio, and was a 4th Degree Member of Council #626 Knights of Columbus, Norwalk, Ohio. Sam was a board member of the Norwalk Salvation Army. He and his wife, Mamie were active volunteers at the Huron County Services for the Aging and Senior Center. Sam was active with the Age Exchange Program at the Senior Center, organized member trips, played cards, and was Huron County Senior of the year in 2008. He was a former member of Mt. Vernon Lodge #64 F. & A.M., Norwalk, Ohio, was a former umpire for the Lefty Grove Baseball program for many years, and enjoyed traveling. Sam was an agent for the Prudential Insurance Company, with 23 years of service,retiring in 1985.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mamie (Mazzola) Giallombardo of Norwalk, Ohio, by his daughter, Phyllis Smith of Norwalk, Ohio, 4 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Sam is also survived by his brother, Angelo Giallombardo of Cleveland, Ohio and by his sisters, Betty Klinc of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Carol Adornetto of Cleveland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Marie Guerrero, by his brothers, Joseph and Anthony, and by his sisters, Josephine Marucci and Rose Giallombardo.

Friends may call on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Frank Kehres will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio.
