John William Bittner, Jr., 80, of Sandusky, passed away, surrounded by his family, on Friday evening, November 30, 2012 in Stein Hospice Care Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born on August 11, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Julia Irene (Kroft) and John William Bittner, Sr. John served his country in the Army, 88th Recon. Division, in Italy during the Korean Conflict.
Professionally, John was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, receiving the Gold Veteran's Badge for his years of service and dedication. He loved to fish and to spend time with his family and friends.
John is survived by his daughter, Lori (Jim) Schubach, of Sandusky; son, Scott Bittner, of Texas; daughter-in-law, Patty Bittner, of Sandusky; grandchildren, Chris, Heather, Chad, and Carrie; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim Bittner, of Sandusky; and other family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Krafty) Bittner; and son, John Bittner, III.
At John's request, there will be no visitation and cremation will take place in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Private family services and inurnment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, with the American Legion Post 83 Honor Guard providing military honors.
