Rita Joan Koechley age 91 of Bellevue passed away at the Bellevue Care Center Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010.
She was born on June 4, 1919 to the late Henry & Elizabeth (Schott) Koechley in Bellevue the 9th of 11 children.
Rita Joan never wanted to be the last of her family to pass away, but she was preceded by her parents and all of her brothers and sisters-Charles, Robert, Margaret, John Frederick, Marion, Betty, John, Edward, Kathleen, James and Lawrence "Ted".
In her 20's she and sister Kathleen moved to Dayton, where the lived in the Loretto Hotel (for girls) and she went to work at the old Rikes Department Store where she met and fell in love with Henry Jefferson Strange of Virginia, a WWII veteran. Later she went to work in and retired from the computer department at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. She then volunteered to help at the Air Force Museum and in the 1990's she returned to Bellevue and with her sister Betty, volunteered at the ICS Cafeteria. She was well travelled, loved collecting dolls and was an exceptionally accomplished photographer.
She is survived by sister-in-law Elinor Koechley of New Jersey and Mary Koechley of Bellevue. She is also survived by nephews, Bill (Nan) Kahle of Bucyrus, Larry (Janis) Kahle of Lithopolis who cared for her and looked after her affairs; locally and in the area by Jim (Lori) Koechley, Tom (Bea) Koechley, Mary (George) Cooper, Kathee (Ron) Andrews, Roger (Jane) Kahle and Bob (Laurie) Kahle; as well as many nephews and nieces all around the country.
Friends will be received Friday, Nov 26, 2010 from 10:00 am until service time at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center St., Bellevue. Burial will follow at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery. Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue is in care of arrangements.
