George A. "Jim" Hehl

George A. "Jim" Hehl, 95, of Sandusky, died early Wednesday morning, December 5, 2012 in the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky following a lengthy illness.

He was born October 15, 1917 in Sandusky. George was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, serving overseas in the Philippines and New Guinea, and was discharged as 1st Sgt. In the Quartermaster Depot Company. He was employed at the Hinde & Dauch Paper Company, John Thiede Plumbing & Heating, and retired in 1985 from the Sandusky Public Schools as the supervisor of the Building and Grounds. After his retirement, he worked part time for Res. Q Marine, Sandusky Boat Line as Dockmaster, and Pfeil Funeral Homes. Jim was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ, Sandusky, and the Lowell C. Hein Post 2529 of the V.F.W. In his early years, he was a softball pitcher on the I.A. B. softball team and also an active bowler.

He is survived by one son: Terry (Judy) Hehl of Sandusky, one grandson: Kevin Hehl of Sandusky, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Laverne R. Hehl in 1988, his parents: August & Mary (Eichel) Hehl, one sister: Dorothy Hofacker and a close friend: Dolores Fletcher.

Friends may call Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 11:30 AM until time of funeral service at 1:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. The Rev. Jerald Fenske will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
