Douglas Paul Hunter, 58, of Sandusky, went on to his eternal rest, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday morning, January 29, 2013 in Stein Hospice Care Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born on July 26, 1954 in Meridian, Mississippi. He and his family relocated to Sandusky at the age of 4.
Douglas attended Sandusky High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1972. After being honorably discharged, Douglas returned to Sandusky, where he worked for various establishments. He was an avid fisherman, loved rock and roll music, and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Douglas leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Corey Rice, of Cincinnati; daughters, Ashley Hunter, of Pittsburgh, and Deyana Hunter, of Sandusky; longtime companion, Yolonda Rogers; stepchildren, Ebony, Ariane, and Malisa Darden, all of Sandusky; sisters, Esther (David, Sr.) Robinson, of Cincinnati, Eugenia (Vernon, Sr.) Seavers, Sherley Jackson, and Minister Brenda (Elder Delaney) Alexander, all of Sandusky; Patricia (William) Crooks, of Cleveland, Tamala (Charles, Sr.) Jones, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Dr. Julia Hunter, of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Mary (Vincent) Hunter, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; brothers, Minister John Mark (Sarah) Hunter and Gerald Allen (Hope) Hunter, both of Sandusky, and Sylvester Hunter, of Marion, Ohio; eight grandchildren; special friend of many years, Tannie Shine, Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was proceeded in death by his daughter, Deondra Hunter; parents, Ezell, Sr. and Geraldine (Cherry) Hunter; brothers, Ezell Hunter, Jr. and Gary Alonzo Hunter; and nephews, David Robinson, Jr. and Kevarion Alexander.
Friends may call from 11 A.M. until time of funeral services at Noon on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Eddy Henry Way, Sandusky. Rev. Curtis L. Johnson, Jr. will officiate and Douglas's brother, Minister John Mark Hunter, will give the eulogy. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
