Mary H. Guendelsberger, 90, of Port Clinton, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday afternoon, November 29, 2010 following a brief illness. She was born October 12, 1920 in Sandusky and was a 1939 graduate of Sandusky High School. Prior to her retirement, Mary had been employed by J.C. Penney Co., Sandusky, the Berea Public Schools, and Southwest Missouri State University. She was a member of the former Calvary Episcopal Church, Sandusky. She was an avid reader, loved cross-stitching and embroidering, baking and making candy. She is survived by three daughters: Judy (Larry Hedrick) Askren Klotz of Springfield, Missouri, Diana (David) Askren French of Alexander City, Alabama, and Susan (John) Guendelsberger Fick of Oak Harbor, OH., three grandchildren: David (Amy) Klotz of Elyria, Karen Klotz of Los Angeles, CA., and Matthew (Jennifer) Fick of Guttenberg, N.J., three great grandchildren: Kyle, Ryan and Alex, one brother: Alvin Strauss of Sandusky, one niece: Linda Wilson and her daughter: Renee Wilson, and other nieces, nephews and relatives. She was preceded in death by her first husband: Charles Asken, second husband: Donald Guendelsberger, her parents: Carl & Florence (Platt) Strauss, and siblings: William & Carl Strauss, Elizabeth Rode, Jayne Howey, and Det Clemons. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Oakland Cemetery Chapel, 2917 Milan Road, Sandusky. The Rev. Karl Kessler will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio Parkinson Foundation Northwest Region, Inc., 1930 North State Rt. 19, Oak Harbor, Ohio 43449 or to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
